Smokes are very important in every CS:GO match and they are sometimes hard to train if you don't have some references. In this guide I will cover main smokes in Cobblestone and give you the links for some practice maps for it. Also, you will found at the bottom of the article some commands to practice smokes by yourself!
Let's go!
DE_CBBLE (TERRORIST SIDE- B BOMBSITE)
We are going to start with the Terrorist. The following smokes can block some angles that the Counter Terrorist should cover, giving you the opportunity to push B and get a plant:
- From T arch to B Site: If you go to the box near the entrance of such position, you can block the vision of the CT's that are waiting for you in Hut, Fountain or just below B Main. Check the compilation of images below to see the right spot where you have to throw the smoke.
- Second: From the same box as below, but changing a bit your position, you can smoke Hut and cause some trouble for the CT's that usually stay there. Check the images to know where to throw the smoke!
- From Stairs to B short: A great spot to make a quick entrance on B site. Combining this smoke with the others below, the entrance will be unstoppable.
DE_CBBLE (COUNTER-TERRORIST SIDE - B BOMBSITE)
To defend B Site against the Terrorist, the CT's have also some nice spots to throw smokes on:
- From B Doors to T Arch: This smoke will stop Terrorist's attempt to breakthrough your defensive lines and plant the bomb. Picking as a reference the window and moving forward, smoking T Arch will give you an amazing advantage versus the Terrorists.
- From Connector to T Arch: Another way to slow down Terrorist to reach B site. Pick as a reference the roof of the building on your left and the brick wall on your right. Then, jump.
DE_CBBLE (COUNTER TERRORIST - A SITE)
- From Balcony to Long Stairs. With the right position, you can block Long Stairs to make the enemy rotate for an "un-smoked" position.
DE_CBBLE (TERRORIST SIDE - A BOMBSITE)
- From Halls to A Doors and Vent. This is a tricky one. Picking as a reference a green area that is in the skybox, you can smoke A doors.
If you move yourself to the right and just in front of a pole post (the pole post next to the third hole or window counting from your left), you can smoke Vent as well, giving some trouble for the CT's to enter A and defuse the bomb.
- From Wood/Alley to Balcony. Smoking Balcony will make the CT's to rotate to another position to enter in A bombsite, which will give you a very good time advantage.
In fact, in Woods or Alley there are some other spots to smoke Balcony. Try them by yourself and find the most suitable for you!
And, that's it for Cobblestone! Now, let's take a look at some amazing Workshop maps to practice smokes.
WORKSHOP MAPS TO PRACTICE SMOKES
In the Workshop of Counter Strike: Global Offensive, you can actually find some amazing maps to practice, from smokes to flashes and grenades. Unfortunately, there is no Cobblestone map to practice smokes, but that doesn't mean you can't practice them. In fact, if you continue reading this article, you will find how to practice using some useful commands. But now, let's focus on some great examples of good maps created just to practice smokes:
-Inferno, Mirage and Overpass: A Steam user had some free time and decided to make an explanatory and in-depth guide on how to smoke correctly certain spots in these maps. Check them out, because they are really useful: Training Maps by Dolnma
-Jump throw: Some smokes, as we have seen before, require you to jump or move forward. In this map, you will practice all the necessary steps to make a good jump throw. Follow the link to learn more about the map: Jump Throw Practice [JTP]
COMMANDS TO PRACTICE SMOKES
Another good option to practice smokes is making a "Offline with Bots" match, selecting your desired map and, of course, selecting Competitive mode to do so. The following is a list with all the commands you will need to practice smokes properly, with a brief explanation of the function of the command:
-sv_cheats 1: Without this command, the following ones will be unusable.
-mp_startmoney 50000: After starting a new round, your money will be increased. This is what we all want in real life, right?
-mp_maxmoney 50000: The maximum money by default you can earn in a competitive match is 16000. With this command, it will be augmented to 50000.
-mp_roundtime_defuse 60: Modifying that number will change the round timer from 2:00 minutes to 60:00, giving you plenty of time to practice some smokes.
-mp_buy_anywhere 1: Ever wanted to buy anywhere on the map instead of the CT'S or T's spawns? Now you can!
-mp_buytime 500000000000: This command will replace the actual buy time in the round.
-sv_infinite_ammo 1: I think you won't need an explanation here, right?
-sv_grenade_trajectory 1: This command will make a stroke in the smoke when you throw it, so you can know if you threw it correctly or not.
-mp_freezetime 0: This will change the actual time in seconds that keep the players frozen when the round starts. By default, it is 6.
