Overpass is famous for a very tricky boosts from Fnatic and Natus Vincere, but the map has more to offer than places for people to build towers. There are also tricky smokes from A. B-Bombsite is the go to map for a rush as a T on Overpass but there are ways for the CT’s to stop that. Usually you play B with 2 people. One will watch Short and one Monster. As you can only carry one smoke per person you will be left limited on smokes if you straight up smoke Short/Monster. But you can smoke B from A right after the spawn helping the B players to defend B and giving them the opportunity to safe smokes for the late round.
Smokes from A to B
Monster Smoke (64 Tick)
A jumpthrow is required
To line up the smoke you have to position yourself right next to the middle of the green trash container. After you positioned yourself you aim at the left end of the pole and perform a jumpthrow
Monster Smoke (128 Tick)
A jumpthrow is required
If you play on 128 Tick you will need to position yourself slightly differently. Walk to the left edge of the green trash container and aim at the left end of the pole followed by a jumpthrow.
The smoke will land in Monster, saving a smoke for the players on B and slowing down a potential rush or entry on B from the T’s. That is the only smoke you need to position differently on when playing on a different Tickrate.
Pipe Smoke
As with the Monster smoke you need to position yourself at the trash container. This time you have to go to the right end of the trash container and position yourself right in front of the lock. Now aim at the edge of the tall building and go up to the highest wire and throw the smoke.
Short Smoke
To smoke Short from A go to the ladder of the truck and aim at the right elevation of the green foil on the trailer of the truck. After that move slightly to the right and line up your crosshair with with the edge of the window of the building. From there on you just need to perform a normal throw.
Connector Door Smoke
If you want to go for an aggressive push as a CT, you could push short but you will need to worry about someone opening the connector door and backstabbing you. That can be prevented if someone smokes the door for you or you do it for someone else. To smoke the door, walk into the edge of the trailer and position yourself in the middle of the outstanding part of the wall. After you positioned yourself aim at the pole and look up towards the bottom line of the sun. A normal throw will now smoke off the door.
Additional Thoughts
Throwing those smokes can create an opportunity for you to try some not so common tactics. As soon as the smokes land, the T’s will most likely stop and wait for the smoke to disappear. That will give you the chance to slowly push from A with 5 people while the T’s will expect only 2-3 players playing A. You could also use the smokes as a T. If you have just secured the bombsite and you are setting up for the retake, a lurker on A could throw one of these smokes to prevent the CT’s from gaining the upperhand. That will help you in case of not having to fear a push while you need to wait for the lurker to come down to B to use his smoke, which would take longer than smoking it from A.
Conclusion
Smoking from A to B can save you important smokes due to the fact that you can buy a new smoke after you throw your first one if you are fast enough. It can help to prevent a rush from the T’s, as it might occur in the second round if the T’s lose the pistol round. But not only can it help you in the early game, you can also use it to stop the T’s rotating into B while you rotate from A to B. The hardest part about the smokes are the jumpthrows, but the other smokes are beginner friendly. But it is a two edged sword as T’s can use these smokes as well.
