Reyna is VALORANT's first new Agent. Here's how to pick her up.
VALORANT’s official release came with a shiny new Agent, Reyna. This new Agent fits right alongside the rest of the VALORANT cast with an interesting character design, unique character animations, and a defined role in the game.
This soul vampire from Mexico is a part of the duelist class and is in prime position to take over the current meta. Reyna’s entire kit is centered around one thing and one thing only, getting kills. Much like Raze, Reyna has little utility outside of kills so if you see this Agent at the bottom of the leaderboard, something is wrong.
Reyna is a playmaking Agent who is best when playing aggressive and finishing off the enemy team. Her abilities are predicated on her getting kills, not assists, so if a teammate finishes off an enemy in a gunfight, she will miss out on some major buffs.
Abilities
Reyna excels at entering a room or choke point and finishing off enemies quickly. She can also take sustained fights, and even multiple enemies at once, if played correctly. Much like the rest of the duelist class, Reyna wants to roam around and find fights as opposed to locking down an area.
She is best at midrange, not close enough for players to see her through her flash, but not too far away to negate her abilities.
Leer
A purple eye that can be cast through walls and as high, or low, in the air as you want. This eye makes every enemy who sees it become nearsighted for a short duration. The enemy can only see and hear within a few feet after looking at the ability. It can be destroyed by enemies with a few shots and does not affect your allies. This is Reyna’s flash and only costs 200 credits, so it should be purchased almost every round.
Devour
Every enemy that Reyna kills drops a purple soul that she can absorb for healing and overhealing. These souls only last a few seconds so use this ability quickly. This is Reyna’s bread and butter and involves getting kills then immediately using to help with the next duel. This ability is not instantaneous, there is a short channel time to completely heal yourself, so do not wait around for this ability to finish before looking around for enemies.
Dismiss
Those purple souls can also be absorbed by this ability to make Reyna intangible and immune to bullets and abilities for a short time. This ability is great for fighting multiple enemies or pushing into a chokepoint. Absorb a soul and have an enemy waste a clip shooting at you while you are intangible, then turn the fight in your favor.
Empress (Ultimate)
After casting this ability, Reyna gets increased fire, reload, and equip speeds. All of her soul-absorbing abilities gain infinite charges and getting a kill renews the Ultimate’s duration. She automatically uses Devour after every kill, but does not absorb the soul, and Dismiss now makes her invisible as well. This ability is great for clutching games solo or clearing a bomb site after an entry kill. There are no drawbacks to using this ability, so whip it out every round it’s available.
Optimal Weapons
Reyan is best at middle to long range, so her most optimal weapons are LMGs and rifles. Here are two weapons that best fit her playstyle.
Ares
The Ares is a weapon that can take on multiple enemies at mid-range without having to reload. This weapon is great for Reyna because she can get multiple kills, absorb souls, and then not have to wait to reload. This weapon is also cheap, 1,600 credits, and pairs well with her Ultimate.
Phantom
The Phantom is a high-grade rifle that excels at both mid-range and long-range thanks to its one-shot headshots. This weapon is useful for Reyna in long-range scenarios or one-on-one duels. Reyna is best with weapons that kill quickly and with little downtime, so what better than a gun that can kill with one precise bullet.
Tips and tricks
- Souls cannot be absorbed at long ranges or through walls. This is especially frustrating when killing an enemy in a window or down a long chokepoint. So, be mindful of when you can and cannot absorb a soul so as to not get caught trying to absorb a soul out in the open.
- Dismiss does not allow you to shoot while in the intangible, or invisible state so be mindful of your positioning after the duration is over. That is when you will be able to take fights again.
- Reyna’s Ultimate is in contention for the best in the game, there is no downside for using it and when used in tandem with Dismiss, you can even survive a spike explosion.
- The location of Leer is also indicated on the minimap so when casting through a wall, check to make sure it is going in the desired location. Placing this ability high is the most optimal play. It has a better chance of hitting multiple enemies and forces them to aim away from the angle they are holding down to shoot it or spray blind.
Reyna is the purest form of a duelist that we have seen so far in this game. She does not have movement abilities to control areas from a higher vantage point or control abilities that can help her team hold down a bombsite. Her entire playstyle is centered around finding as many enemies as possible and murdering them to use her abilities. Pick this Agent if you want to become the perfect assassin, killing enemy Agents left and right and if your team ends up winning the round, then that's a nice bonus.
