Support Nautilus: the bane of AD Carries

A guide on how to be a nuisance for the enemy team and carry your team. NAUTILUS SUPPORT the tank support that surfaced in the meta.

The bane of AD Carries: NAUTILUS SUPPORT. As I saw in solo queue, LCK and LPL, Nautilus support is the thing now. How? I'll explain it all in this article. Why is he a good pick? Well he's the tank every ADC needs.

Pros:

- Titan's Wrath (W) offers a decent shield that can tank a good amount of damage from poking ADC's and supports.
- Staggering Blow (Passive) Deals a good amount of damage early and roots the target in place for a few seconds which is very good.
- Once you get near the enemy adc your Riptide (E) slows him and you can poke away on him or kill him if your adc syncs with your actions.
- Depth Charge (R) Can be deadly if used correctly in a teamfight, knocking up all the enemies in it`s way to the target focused by it.
- Scales well into late game.

Cons:

- Slow movement. If you play a tanky skill tree like 0/21/9 you will have slow movement on lane and it`s not that good.
- Dredge Line (Q) is a tricky skillshot, you must coordinate it so you don't hit the wall or miss it.
- When Titan's Wrath (W) is on cooldown Nautilus is not that tanky and can be bursted down fast.
- High cooldowns early so you don't want to waste them.

Laning phase with Nautilus is a little bit tricky, it really depends on the ADC that you have. You either can play aggressive and look for the kill, or conservative and peel for him while he farms. Summoner spells should depend as well on the ADC that you have, if you play aggressive get ignite, if you're planning on protecting the ADC get exhaust. It is important to note Nautilus can hit terrain or any structure (even destroyed structures) to pull himself to that location. This is especially good when your aiming at champions next to walls as it lets you get to them even if you miss.

Mid game near teamfights you should coordinate with other engagers in your team and see witch one goes 1st. Although Nautilus has a nice initiation with his Depth Charge(R) your job should be get to the backline. Depth Charge(R) should be on the ADC / APC in the backline so it passes the line of tanks / engagers in the enemy team. Nautilus' ultimate is fantastic for team fight disruption as well as initiation, being a targeted ability that follows whom he selects it can offer outstanding disruption to the opposition. Depth Charge(R) slowly increases in speed as it chases its target and will follow them to the ends of the map if needed, keep in mind it can be stopped by a spellshield, a well timed Depth Charge(R) on a teleporting enemy can spell chaos if they're attempting to join their team across the map for a fight.

Skillwise I prioritize maxing Titan's Wrath(W) 1st for the big shield that it offers, Dredge Line(Q) 2nd so the cooldown is lowered and you can catch several people in a teamfight and Riptide(E) last.
On objectives focus on zoning enemy jungler/engagers so they can't get to Drake/Baron or peel for your ADC by pulling them with Dredge Line(Q) and slowing them with your Riptide(E). Don't be afraid to tank some skills / AA's from the enemy players, midgame you should be tanky (Titan's Wrath scales good with your health so you will have a large amount of shielding). Lastly always remember your primary goal of being a tank, keep yourself between your squishier allies and the enemy team at all costs and punish those that try to chase with your Riptide. Anyone who tries to dash past you should be your target for a Staggering Blow(passive) or Dredge Line(Q).

Masteries

I use 0/9/21 as masteries on Nautilus support so Nautilus can keep up in both gold and experience as well as cover his weak movement speed further.

Runes

For runes there are 2 mixtures that you can use, 1 that gives you what Nautilus lacks (Speed) and 1 that gives you sustain and nice scaling into late game.

The runepages depend aswell on the adc that you're playing with. If you're planning on sustaining pick the one with health so you won't get bullied out of the lane. If you're planning to be aggressive use the one with movement speed so you can have a decent movement speed and catch people with your Dredge Line(Q) or with your Riptide(E) slow.

Itemization

There are situational builds that you can do, I usually do 1 of these 2:

This one is for sustaining in lane and peeling for your adc keeping enemy tanks/engagers off him. Use Face of the Mountain and Locket of the Iron Solari on your ADC when he gets focused, slow them with your riptide or with Randuin's Omen active. With the passive from frozen heart you'll be the 2nd guardian angel for your adc. Always remember to keep the Dredge Line(Q) for the assasins that will always focus your ADC, if your ADC survives the engage he will surely win the teamfight for your team.

This one is for tanking out everything people could throw at your team and still survive and keep being a nuisance. Thus you got engage potential from the Talisman of Ascension, with all the magic resist/armor that you have stacked up and all the health you have + the shield that you get from Titan's Wrath(W) Shield building up with the health from all these items you'll be the ideal tank. Dont be afraid of going in and sometimes dying, if they focus you down it's the perfect way for your APC/ADC to focus them down.

Conclusion

Nautilus fits the profile of a tanky support in the current meta, exactly like leona/thresh and the other supports he can be that tank that you always need with you as your ADC. Also, even if you're the tank of the team and you must be near your adc in fights, never forget to ward key points of the map, dont panic if your adc gets engaged, think your moves ahead and try getting him out safe even if you die in the process. If you guys want more tips or request something else hit me up at facebook.com/Alusi0nx or private message me on my team-dignitas.net profile.
