The Easter Eggs of Overwatch - Route 66

How about we take a look at some of the easter eggs hiding in Route 66?

Blizzard aren't exactly the first game company to incorporate easter eggs into their game, and they're definitely not the last. But one thing you will notice is that they like to pay homage to their other titles. While it's not a surprise to some people, it can be a surprise for you if you run across it for the first time! With games such as Diablo and Warcraft being the primary titles referenced in the majority of maps, it's likely you've run across these before and not even thought twice about them. Maybe now's your chance, so let's run through these easter eggs, starting with Route 66.

- The Panorama Diner

Starting off with the soda machine behind the counter, you'll notice two different references to the Starcraft and the Warcraft series. If you're a fan of Warcraft (or possibly just play Hearthstone) you'll instantly notice the "Dr BOOM" drink. I'm not sure if that's really safe to drink or not, but that's something else to worry about. If you're a Starcraft fan however, you would have noticed the Zerg logo on the far right side of the machine, in a purple colour to match, too. Whether these are really something that you want to drink, that's debatable. But definitely a good couple of references to some of Blizzard's most popular titles, however, what else is in the Panorama Diner?

Diablo's had it rough throughout his time, and maybe the special brand "Diableaux Hot Sauce" might make life a little bit easier for the dark lord. If it makes anyone feel better, it's most likely going to be slightly hotter than your average hot sauce, coming from the Burning Hells and everything. Diablo fans might have already noticed this, since waiting for a game to start leads to a bunch of explosions, vandalism and exploration. If you take a quick look around the different posters and signs up around the diner, some comical, some just business related, but if you're a Diablo fan you might have noticed another small reference on the wall from someone familiar.

A check. Not something you see everyday, so the item itself is pretty damn rare. But there's something a bit different about this one, thanks to Deckard Cain (an NPC in Diablo) himself writing the check. It's also kind of funny that Cain was going to the diner as some sort of celebration, considering Diablo 3 was released on the same date that Deckard Cain actually wrote the check, 5th May, 2012. Thinking about it, how could he even have done that considering he died in the series? Whatever, it's safe to say that the Panorama Diner respected him, considering the check is stuck onto the wall right below an advertisement for Diableaux too (also by the exit door on the right, but where's the fun in that?).

StarCraft fans aren't just limited to just a drink either, if you look around on the tables inside the diner, you can spot a comic that multiple people seem to be fans of: "Craft from the Stars". The hint seems to be in the name, but judging by the art style and look on the comic book themselves too, it's a StarCraft related comic that you can find lying around inside the diner, including known faces such as Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades. It's also only 15¢, so I'm sure anyone can afford to have a look at the comic.

- Deadlock Propane and Propane Accessories

Moving away from the Panorama Diner, you'll find the warehouse Deadlock Propane and Propane Accessories, named as a reference to Hank Hill and his love for propane we can only assume. There's honestly tons of boxes containing, well, god knows what. We know there's weaponry there at least. Either way, they also seem to be storing a lot of stuff for numerous corporations around the world, since they're going to be most likely shipping these boxes to places such as Lumérico in Dorado, Rikimaru in Hanamura and even Kofi Aromo in Numbani. Considering one of those is a nuclear facility, and the other two are an innocent food place and a café, they definitely keep a variety of supplies inside the warehouse. Or maybe they just want missiles for a coffee shop, who knows...

They also ship Adams Instant Chicken and Rice, simple salt flavored chips, oh, and apparently they seem to ship to Lucheng Interstellar too. They really do ship a variety of items from Route 66...

- The Cave of Mystery

Finally, we're going to want to have a look at the second spawn room for the attackers, also known as "The Cave of Mystery". You can see from the image that it's definitely a tourist trap, somewhere for people to get memorabilia and other items they really don't need. But the real question is, of what? Isn't it just babbling on about aliens? Not exactly. If you look to the other map, Hollywood to be exact, there is a bunch of posters around the place advertising a film, directed by someone called "Hal-Fred Glitchbot". So, he's an omnic director, pretty neat. But what else do the posters tell us? More simply, the poster of "They Came From Beyond The Moon" is actually what this entire place is decorated up from!
