The Games Everyone Is Waiting For in 2026

The year 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years in gaming in a long time.

The year 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years in gaming in a long time. Developers are getting ready to release some absolute bangers, brand-new games we've been anticipating for a while and many of us look forward too. Unless, of course, GTA 6 gets postponed again. But here's to hoping it won't. Other than the obvious, there are plenty of great looking games that are set to release in 2026 so here's the list.

Grand Theft Auto VI

Grand Theft Auto VI stands as the most anticipated game of 2026. Rockstar Games is known for taking its time, and expectations are extremely high. The game returns players to a modern version of Vice City and surrounding regions, offering a huge open world filled with detail, freedom, and story depth. This entry introduces two main characters and focuses on a crime driven narrative that reacts to player choices.

Beyond the story, players expect major upgrades in world interaction, artificial intelligence, and online features. Grand Theft Auto VI is not just another release, but a cultural event that is expected to influence game design for years to come.

Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil Requiem continues Capcom’s long running horror series with a stronger focus on fear and atmosphere. After years of balancing action and horror, this entry aims to return to slower pacing, limited resources, and psychological tension. Players explore dark environments while uncovering a story that connects past events with new threats.

Fans are excited because early impressions suggest that the game values suspense over combat. Lighting, sound design, and storytelling play a major role, making every encounter feel dangerous. For horror fans, this is one of the most important releases of the year.

Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War IV

Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War IV is one of the most important strategy releases expected in 2026. After years of uncertainty around the series, this entry aims to bring the franchise back to its roots with large-scale real-time strategy combat. With the success of other Dawn of War games (before 3 as Dawn of War 3 was very much disliked...), there are a lot of eyes on this release, will they fail again like with Dawn of War 3 or make something that will be loved by OG fans?

Players command massive armies across destructible battlefields, managing resources, positioning, and unit abilities in real time.

Dawn of War IV focuses on faction identity and tactical depth, with each army playing very differently from the others. It combines classic base building like in Warcraft 3 with modern quality of life improvements, making it approachable for new players while still rewarding longtime fans. Or at least that's what they are promising. For strategy fans and Warhammer players in general, this is a defining title that could restore the series to its former status or just another Warhammer failure similar to Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin which looked promising then crashed and burned to triple and then double-digit numbers player base.

Crimson Desert

Crimson Desert is a large-scale action-adventure game set in a fantasy world shaped by war, politics, and personal stories. The game focuses on a central character while offering an open world full of side stories, combat encounters, and exploration. How close is that to Black Desert Online? Quite close, actually, not like BDO is a very social MMO anyway as you normally spend time grinding alone without having to interact with other players all that much to begin with.

What makes Crimson Desert stand out is its blend of cinematic storytelling and deep combat systems (BDO). Players can expect large boss battles, meaningful choices, and a world that reacts to their actions. It is designed as a single player experience with strong narrative focus, making it one of the most ambitious games of the year and also offering SOME online capability. Maybe more planned for the future?!

Pragmata

Pragmata offers something very different from most big releases. Set in a futuristic environment, the game follows two characters trying to survive on an abandoned space station. It mixes action, puzzle solving, and emotional storytelling.

The game stands out because of its slower pace and unusual tone. Rather than constant combat, it focuses on cooperation between characters and careful planning which excited a lot of people when Pragmata was first revealed. Pragmata is expected to appeal to players who enjoy sci-fi stories and experimental gameplay. And of course, who doesn't want to basically be playing a game where you're a non-evil little sister from Bioshock.

007 First Light

007 First Light introduces a new take on James Bond by focusing on his early years. Instead of starting like playing straight out of one of the movies, players experience Bond as he earns his status through missions that test skill, intelligence, and grow as a character, taking a new spin on the whole franchise with the game being more similar to Shadow of the Tomb Raider or Rise of the Tomb Raider where you get to play a main character before they become what everyone knows them to be like.

The gameplay emphasizes stealth, gadgets, and player choice, expected from a 007 game after all. Missions can be completed in multiple ways, rewarding patience and creativity. Fans of spy stories and tactical action games are eager to see how this fresh approach reinvents a well-known character that all too many people know from both movies and previous games.

Tides of Tomorrow

Tides of Tomorrow is one of the most creative games planned for 2026. It is a narrative driven adventure where player choices affect not only their own story but also the worlds of other players. These changes happen asynchronously, meaning players influence each other without directly meeting. If you've seen Waterworld, this game could definitely interest you as a lot of the game takes place on an oceanic planet. Subnautica anyone?!

The game focuses on exploration, storytelling, and moral decisions. It attempts to show how games can tell shared stories in new ways, making it one of the most exciting-looking games of 2026.

Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun 2

Boltgun 2 delivers fast paced shooting set in the well-known Warhammer universe. Inspired by the classic shooter from just a few years ago. With the original game having been considered one of the top Warhammer games to come out in recent years, a lot of fans keep high expectations.

Fans of the first game are excited to see expanded levels/maps, new enemies, new mechanics, new guns, new... everything in this retro FPS coming out this year and hopefully not being another disappointment in the Warhammer franchise.

Why 2026 Matters

What makes 2026 special is the balance between massive franchises and creative risks. Players get long awaited sequels from liked studios, while also seeing new ideas that challenge game design even though they aren't exactly indie releases which normally do it best. Horror, action, racing, role playing, and experimental storytelling are all gonna be part of 2026.
