VALORANT New Game Mode SKIRMISH, Explained

Learn everything you need to know about VALORANT’s new mode—SKIRMISH.

VALORANT has always lacked a dedicated dueling mode. A mode where nothing but aim counts when it comes to winning. There is Deathmatch, but it’s free for all, and Team Deathmatch, but that has abilities. The only way you get a duel is to set up a Custom Deathmatch Lobby and ask your friend to play in a certain area (Like Mid on Ascent).

But those days are long gone now. VALORANT’s new SKIRMISH mode is everything that I just described. This is a mode that focuses on aim duels, and the player with the best aim and movement comes out on top. So, here is everything you need to know about SKIRMISH, and how you can start using this mode as a means to improve.

What Is the SKIRMISH Mode In VALORANT?

SKIRMISH is a custom game mode that allows you to duel. No abilities, no strategy, just pure aiming skill. The mode goes up to 5v5s starting from 1v1s. It’s a best-of-nineteen format, so the first team to get 10 rounds wins the match.

Players spawn with full shield and infinite creds. There is no instant respawn; if you die, you will respawn after the round. The objective is simple—kill the other team/player.

SKIRMISH is extremely fast-paced. A match hardly takes 5-7 minutes. This makes it a great warm-up alternative to Deathmatch and the Range. Plus, it is more realistic because all you are using is aim and movement to win.

How To Play SKIRMISH Mode In VALORANT

Currently, the mode can only be played through Custom Games. Here is how to do it step-by-step if you haven’t set up a Custom lobby before

  • Click on Play from the Menu to get into the Lobby Menu.
  • Then, Select Custom Game from the Game Modes. It’s the last option.
  • Invite your friends if you haven’t already.
  • In the Custom Game menu, set the Mode to Skirmish. Then, choose a map from the three maps: Skirmish A, Skirmish B, and Skirmish C.
  • If you want more settings like Cheats, click on Options. Otherwise, just press Start.

SKIRMISH Maps

SKIRMISH launched with three maps: Skirmish A, Skirmish B, and Skirmish C. A is the smallest, ideal for 1v1s, with Skirmish B slightly bigger, for 2v2s or 3v3s, and lastly Skirmish C, which is the biggest, ideal for 5v5s.

The design ideology behind these maps is the same; it’s the size that changes. All three maps are rooms with objects scattered around to act as cover. They are quite similar to CS2 aim maps. There are no sites, middle, or any flank routes. You and your opponent are thrown in a room and can use the objects for cover.

How To Use Skirmish For Practice

Apart from being a fun aim dueling mode, Skirmish is the best mode to help you improve. It’s realistic aim training that you can’t get in the Range or even aim trainers. Just get a friend with you and run 2-3 matches of Skirmish before your ranked session.

Focus on accuracy and warming up instead of winning. Try different types of peeks, practice one-taps, learn spray control, and focus on fixing your weaknesses. Instead of using this mode to flex on your friends, use it as a personal training ground to improve your mechanics.

Because other modes like Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch cannot give you those constantly repeating close-quarter duels that Skirmish can, due to the compact maps, you are forced into close-quarter high-stakes duels that replicate actual game situations.

You can also use this to practice fighting against multiple opponents. It takes a different type of skill to be able to win 1v2s or 1v3s. You need to learn how to isolate angles as well as force the enemies into 1v1 fights. With Skirmish, you can practice this and improve your clutching ability.

Overall, Skirmish is a fantastic mode to practice your mechanics. Start incorporating it into your daily practice and warm up routines.

Conclusion

VALORANT needed a dedicated dueling mode, and Skirmish is now here. Whether it’s to settle a debate among friends, show off your mechanics or just get in a quick warmup session before ranked—Skirmish is the perfect mode for it.

The fast-paced duels in a close and compact space makes for a thrilling VALORANT experience. Not to mention, it’s one of the best game modes to improve in the game. So, practice your aim and movement, and strive to be the better player in VALORANT new mode.
