What to do in League of Legends when you are Tilted

When playing games, you quickly learn that losing is a part of them.

Games are the biggest part of the average teenager's life in this current generation. They will stay up all night long and lose sleep for classes or work the next day because it is their passion. But there is always a catch with this. Many people will lose matches and become tilted.

Starting off, what does the term tilted mean exactly? This term is referring to being frustrated with whatever game you are playing at the time due to losing, being flamed at, bad teammates, you doing poorly and knowing so, or multiple things I mentioned and more combined. Personally, I experience this a lot more often then I mean to and I have coped with tilting and have found a few techniques to help lessen the effects and maybe rid the anger altogether.

Fun Fact:

Did you know using aggressive chat during a League of Legends has a 16% increased chance of you losing that match?

Take a Break:

Sometimes taking a break is what is needed. You are most likely grinding hours upon hours of ranked queues and just aren't having any luck. You begin to grow irritated and start being less aware of what's going on entirely and start making more mistakes then usual. Without a break, you will only become more and more tilted and only hinder what you mean to accomplish in the first place.

Sleep:

Sleep is by far one of the most important things in our lives. Most of us do stay up late at night and cause ourselves to love sleep the next day because of the sheer enjoyment of playing or doing competitions. Why don't you just sleep it off this one night. You'll wake up refreshed and in a much better mood then before.

Do some Exercise:

Being a gamer usually means you are planted in a office chair for hours on end and watching a monitor. A lot of gamers are usually, stereotype incoming, fairly skinny or on the overweight to obese sizes. Some don't see any athletic activity at all. The feeling of a “runner's high” is probably one of the best feelings you could ever have, knowing that you put in a great deal of effort and are now feeling fantastic resting the sore muscles to come. Putting some of that anger into the workout you do may just relax you a bit and allow you to focus. After working out, the blood flow to your brain increases which allows you to concentrate to a better degree and potentially improve your game-play.

Talk to some Friends:

In this world, it is impossible to live your entire life on your own. You will have friends come and go and sometimes they are more important than you may think. Simply talking to them or joking around on the game with them will take your mind off what was tilting you in the first place. There have been countless times where my personal friends have made me go from throwing a controller to smiling and laughing my butt off at the smallest of things just because I'm with them. Smiling and laughing is only good for you and has been said to expand your life. Stop tilting and start smiling more often!

Remember, it's a Game:

You have to go back to the roots of why you are even playing the game to begin with. There must be something you like about it. The competitive aspect, the characters you get to use, the feeling of outplaying someone, or simply because you love everything about the game. You are nitpicking the small details of your games at that given moment and that is the main reason why you are tilting in the first place. Chill out, remember, it's a game. Have fun with it. :)

In-game Tilting:

If you are tilting during a match, you are likely to do a lot worse than what you are capable of. I mentioned in my "Elo Hell" blog about a few basic ways to help you climb out. There was one part where I mentioned the mute option. This is a powerful button that will only help you in this situation. If you leave chat on, teammates are likely to rage at you for feeding or anything along the lines of playing badly. Stop right there and take time to mute them all and only listen to pings to keep you from becoming further enraged due to the vulgar comments you may receive. Step two would be to turret hug. If you are tilted, you are likely to be off your game at that particular moment. Meaning it will be a lot harder for you to out-play your opponent.

Ping your jungler and hope for the best to maybe get a kill or push the laner off for a bit for you to catch back up. This is from a "you are doing bad" point of view. If you are doing well, don't bring your tilt upon your teammates. Do what you can to carry the game. Listen to their pings if they need you but try to focus on what you can do to win and not focus on how badly a lane is losing or the small things going wrong. Keep the mini-map in your eye sight at all times and pay attention to who is fed and who isn't, whether it's level wise, kill wise, and/or item wise. Eventually the match will be over and you can do 1 of the five steps I listed above.

Hopefully you guys can take these few steps and help you enjoy your everyday gamer lives! If you have your own ways of un-tilting, please feel free to let me know via. Twitter @Volt_sB. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
