You, your trinket, and 250 gold

In this blog I will talk about the importance of trinket usage, upgrading your trinkets, and why it will help you win games!

In Season Four Riot made a change to the vision game when they added trinkets. They have forever changed the game because vision had such a huge change that it was pretty overwhelming. To start we will go over how each trinket works(breifly) and how to use them before and after their upgrades.

Scrying Orb (Blue trinket): This trinket allows you to gain a small amount of vision over a huge area of the map. Through the early stages of this game, levels 1-11, this trinket and its upgrade are a very poor choice of the three. After that though, it can be one of the strongest. Since it is pretty weak we will only talk about the upgraded part of the trinket since the only difference is the one minute ward and range getting larger. This trinket is primarily for the ADC role since they are usually the role with very little 1v1 potential(there are exceptions of course) and have very little escape, so they need this trinket to avoid facechecking into areas. NOTE: this is not a promotion to facecheck anywhere! This trinket as mentioned before, can prevent facechecking, preventing you and your team from walking to that trap the enemy is baiting you into. Here is an example of great places to trinket during the Mid to Late game:

Green= Nuetral Trinket Usage Blue= Blue side Trinket Usage Red= Red Side Trinket Usage

Sweeping Lense (Red Trinket): This is where it gets fun. The Red Trinket is probably the strongest Trinket in the game, before and after upgrading it. This trinket disables all wards in it's range until the ward is hit giving vision of it's attacker. In a more simple way of saying it, the red trinket reveals a ward, the ward is disabled losing it's vision, if you hit the ward the vision is returned unless you kill the ward or just don't hit the trinket. You may ask: "Why not kill the trinket?" Well if you are in the late game, yes kill that ward, but if you are in the early game, where lanes are still going on, then let that ward be and go for that gank. Like said before, the vision of the ward is disabled and the area turns into fog of war again until the Red Trinket runs out, so your enemy has no clue you will be coming. This can lead to a nice early game lead which if used correctly can lead to a win. Top, Mid, Jungle and the support could all go this trinket.

For mid, you could use this to clear the wards you know your opponent set up to help your jungler gank. For top you could just use it to clear wards safely since you are the tank. The Jungler, I have already mentioned. The Supports in evey game love to have warding wars for some reason, maybe just a support thing, seriously though, this could give you bot lane bush control helping your jungler lane gank. Now lets talk about the upgraded part of this trinket. To start upgrade this whenever you can. When upgraded, you get an oracle above your head giving true vision wherever you run for 10 seconds. This is great against stealth champions because it of couse gets rid of their stealth if you are in range.

This is absolute control as I like to say because it strangles your enemy of vision and plays with their mind. Yes they could use the Blue Trinket to counter this but, playing around the cooldown of the Blue Trinket could make it useless to your Red Trinket. Using the Red trinket effectively could set up some nice flanks and picks for you and your team, which could lead to Barons, Dragons and Towers. Honestly, their is not a bad place to use this trinket so whenever it's off cooldown, just find a place to use it. Now after killing nine wards by yourself, this trinket has literally already paid for itself in gold value, let alone in objective control.

Finally we talk about the Vision Totem (Yellow Trinket): This is a personal favorite because I always forget to buy wards. The yellow trinket, before it's upgrade, is a two minute ward, that's it. When using this ward, like the Red Trinket, use it whenever it comes off cooldown, unlike the Red Trinket, there are bad ward placements for this trinket. For a mid laner use it around 2:50's into the game and depending on where the jungler started, use it accordingly(see below). This Trinket is strong on Top laners, and Mid laners. Junglers need to fight for vision, the Red Trinket, and supports have a sightstone, making it inefficient to buy this trinket after the extremely early game.

In Mid lane, you can avoid ganks from the enemy jungler and top laner, you could also ward for both you and your Top(vise versa for Top). Now like before, upgrade this whenever you can. I stress this more than the Red Trinket because having vision control is a key part to winning games.(There is a great article that was just wrote talking about the importance of warding go check it out!) Furthermore, there are two upgrades, one that gives you two green wards and the other a pink ward. After placing three green Trinketwards, this Trinket has already paid for itself in vision saying they last the 3 minute duration. After placing three pink Trinket wards(not including any wards you might have killed) this ward has paid for itself.

Final Notes:

- Blue Trinket: Mainly for ADC, not a neccesary updgrade for the early to mid game, but late game, it's very good at avoiding baits.
- Red Trinket: Good on Top, Mid, Jungle, Support, strangle your enemy of vision, get kills and objectives easily.
- Yellow Trinket: Personal Favorite, good way to get into warding if you are not accustomed to it already. Helps Mid and Top in laning phase.
