The Best Moments in Rocket League Esports

Some RLCS moments you just never forget! From Kuxir97's last-gasp equalizer to Zen pulling off the impossible, here are the highlights that defined Rocket League esports.

Every year, the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) pits the world's best League teams against each other. Super Sonic Legends from all over the globe work together to take home the glory of winning the RLCS. Of course, their competition is just as good as them, so each game is an amalgamation of chaotic scrambles for the ball, last-minute saves, and high-octane goals.

Rocket League’s esports scene has a huge highlight reel of iconic scenarios. This includes plays from overtime goals and amazing defensive saves to zero-second equalizers, which changed the course of the match. Rocket League’s esports history is packed with unforgettable moments, and here are some of the all-time greats.

1. Kuxir97 Rescues Flipsid3 Tactics From The Jaws of Defeat In RLCS Season 3

One of the RLCS Season 3 quarter finals featured a match between Selfless and Flipsid3 Tactics. It was a best-of-five match, and heading into Game 5, Selfless was the favorite to win. So much so that with only five seconds left on the clock, Selfless still had a 2-1 lead over Flipsid3 Tactics.

And then the iconic moment happened: Kuxir97 took advantage of a misdirect and scored at 0 seconds left. Surprisingly, the game went into overtime, where Kuxir97 performed another miraculous shot. Kuxir97 lobbed the ball over the net and followed it up with an angled touch that landed the ball in Selfless’ net. Kuxir97 singlehandedly changed the fate of Flipsid3 Tactics and created one of the best Rocket League offensive sequences.

2. Team Dignitas Wins RLCS Season 5

Out of all the finals in RLCS history, Season 5’s takes the cake for being the most shocking. The Grand Final was played between Dignitas and NRG esports. Initially, it was a one-sided beatdown by Dignitas. They were up two-nil, and NRG was having a hard time coordinating their attack. But as the game went on, NRG pulled the score card out of the fire from 1-3 to 3 all.

Then the unforgettable final Game 7 began. Twenty seconds in, Dignitas' Turbopolsa made a defensive mistake, leading to an own goal. What seemed like a sealed win for Dignitas quickly became a nightmare. However, a minute later, Turbopolsa assisted ViolentPanda for a goal. Right after, GarretG scored a goal with a front flick for NRG, while Turbopolsa came in with a side-flick goal to even the odds for Dignitas. Turbopolsa then seized an opportunity of a whiffed shot and put Dignitas in the lead with only four seconds left on the clock.

The timer was at 0, and the game seemed to be in the bag for Dignitas. But since the rules said the game doesn't end until the ball touches the ground, it didn't. NRG’s JSTN scored for NRG with 0 seconds on the timer. The crowd went wild, and it felt like the greatest esports moment in Rocket League history. Finally, Dignitas’ Turbopolsa came in for the clutch, scoring from an impossible angle and ushering in the Dignitas Rocket League era after an exhilarating Grand Final.

3. Zen's Physics-Defying Goal Against Karmine Corps In The RLCS 2023 World Championship

Vitality was leading against Karmine Corps 3 to 2 in the semi-final of the RLCS 2023 World Championship. With a little over a minute left, Vitality needed just one goal to end up in the finals. That's when Zen took the stage.

In all the chaos, Zen flicked the ball towards Karmine Corps’ net. The ball bounced off a little to the left above the crossbar, but Zen followed it up with another light touch, sending it away from the goal. Normally, there's no way you could score from this angle. Zen is above the Karmine Corps' crossbar while the ball is in midair and moving away from the net. But that's where Zen did his magic.

Zen flipped masterfully and touched the ball at an impossible angle with his car's spoiler. It was an unbelievable goal that left everyone watching speechless. Vitality found themselves headed to the RLCS 2023 finals, which they ended up winning, and Zen etched his name in the Rocket League Hall of Fame.

4. Renault Vitality Wins RLCS Season 8 Semi-final In An Electrifying 5-minute Game 7

In the RLCS 8 Playoffs’ semi-final, Renault Vitality was up against the hard-hitting team Dignitas. Both teams were going neck and neck until Dignitas evened up the match score to 3-3. Game 6 is often regarded as one of the best Rocket League esports sequences of all time.

Dignitas was down one game. As Game 6 began, Dignitas went in hot, and ViolentPanda managed to score the first goal. Right after, Fairy from Vitality followed up with a shocking goal of his own. Then things took a bit of a turn. Both teams gave a masterclass in defense. The crowd was riled up, tension kept on brewing, and then Game 6 went into overtime. The overtime lasted for an electrifying 5+ minutes before Yukeo from Dignitas caught a pass and then rammed the ball directly into Vitality’s net.

It was 3-3, and Game 7 was up next. It featured an early score by Vitality when Kaydop intercepted a shot and directed it to the crossbar. Luckily, the ball found its way into the net, and Game 7, as well as the entire match, went to Renault Vitality once the time ran out. The RLCS S8 semi-finals were a total barn burner, and years later, fans still regard Game 6 as one of the best Rocket League esports moments.

5. NRG Beats An Unstoppable Vitality To Win RLCS Season 8

While team Vitality did find a way to push through to the finals, unfortunately, that's where their luck ran out. In the finals, Vitality clashed against NRG esports. In Game 7 of the best-of-7 series, NRG was up 1-0 with 49 seconds left.

Vitality's Fairy Peak! won a scramble near the goal and shot the ball right into the net, evening the odds. But NRG was bloodthirsty that night. Just 20 seconds into overtime, JSTN. accepts an impossible pass midair from GarretG and flicks the ball into Vitality's net, winning NRG esports an RLCS for the first time.

While Rocket League has a lot of moments you can etch into the esports hall of fame, these are the ones that truly stand out for us. Honestly, if we started listing honorable mentions, we’d be here all day. The game remains one of the most exciting staples in the competitive scene, which is exactly why the highlight reels just keep growing. From Zen playing at his peak to thriller overtimes, it never disappoints.
